Original Handout: Directions, Requirements, Rubric -

Timeline & Steps -

If you are in a Group of 5 people -

Two people will work on Chapter 4, and those two must divide these additional responsibilities between them:
Person #1: Create a visual for the book cover and write 2 "reviews" of the storybook on the back cover.
Person #2: Create an additional visual for EACH of the other chapters (Chapter 1, 2, 3, and 5 - NOT 4)

REVISION to Chapter 5 (group):

For Chapter 5, please include the following pieces:
  1. CONGRESS OF VIENNA: Short paragraph describing the Congress of Vienna - What was it? How did it try to bring peace to Europe and France?
  2. LEGACY of the French Revolution: At least one paragraph answering: Was the Revolution overall a success? Or did it include too many failures or problems? Support with evidence.
  3. LEGACY of the French Revolution: What "moral of the story" or advice do the authors (that's you!) want to give future leaders based on what you have learned about this time period?
  4. One visual.

Suggestion for Storybook Writing: all at 4th-5th grade reading level!

  1. Historical Fiction - Your group bases its chapters around the life of a fictional character or two alive during this time period. Take 5 minutes and decide on the basics for your character: age, gender, job (which Estate are they part of?)
  2. Fantasy/Fairy Tale - Your group creates a story about the Revolution using a fantasy/fairy tale setting as a background. Take 5 minutes and decide a quick background story: what kind of place is it? Who is your main character and what makes them special? For example, the movie Antz is a metaphor for many different revolutions and power struggles, instead of humans it uses ants and grasshoppers. Another example is the story of Cinderella, which is a metaphor for any person standing up to oppression and unfairness so they can change their life.
  3. Modern Day Twist - Your group creates the story of the French Revolution using a modern-day setting and modern characters. Take 5 minutes and decide on the basics for your main character: age, gender, job, location. Also decide what the modern day twist on what the "Estates" would be and the problems that were faced.

Templates you can use for your chapters:

Look at the example images before you download. Choose "SAVE" when you download and change the file name to something you will remember, ie: "chapter3tunison"

You CAN change the template any way you choose, but the main ideas are:
  • Make it look nice.
  • Use a medium sized font (14-18 point)
  • Allow for enough space for your text AND your visual(s)
  • Should be MORE THAN ONE PAGE and should answer the two guiding questions to tell your part of the French Revolution Story.

Create your visual:

  • Hand-draw and glue/tape to your chapter - Make sure you allow enough space!
  • Paint program
  • Comic: http://stripgenerator.com/strip/create/ - Choose a FRAME first. BE AWARE - There is no "save" option here, so if you are creating your comic, make sure you are finishing it at the same time. Just choose the "print" option when you are done.
    • Example comic-- Robespierre strikes fear in the hearts of the citizens of France durng the "Reign of Terror."
